Show Lady Vikes, Braves advance to state tourney By G. BOUNTIFUL 64, JORDAN 59 The Lady Braves clinched a tourney appearance Tuesday with a five-point win over top-placed Jordan, 64-59. Inspired by Nikki Hanni's 28-point scoring spree, the Braves rallied to uproot the Beetdiggers. Backing Hanni were Jenni Gardner who logged 15 and Kim Reimann with 9. "It was an aggressive, physical game. We were pleased with our performance because we usually don't handle that type of game well," Avery said. "We kept our composure when things got tough." JORDAN 59, WX 56 The Lady Wildcats ended their season Thursday taking on the Beetdiggers at Jordan. In spite of an inspired in-spired performance against the league-leading Jordan team, the 'Cats couldn't finish the season on a winning winn-ing note losing 59-56. "It was a heart-breaker,' Wildcat coach Debbie Peel said. "We led the whole game right up until the end. We just can't seem to shoot better than 50 percent from the free throw line, and that killed us." The "Cats had a chance to go up by 1 1 in the second but couldn't capatilize on what could have amounted to six points from the line. Amy Turman, who has established all-state caliber, led the 'Cats with 24 to cap off an outstanding three-year three-year career with Woods Cross. Noell Goodrich and Alycia Bradshaw chipped in 12 and Irrespectively. Though Peel was able to enjoy her 200th win this season, the Wildcats ended the play 5-9 in region and 9-1 1 overall. VIEWMONT 41, DAVIS 32 KAYSVILLE Lady Viking Jenn Jones continued con-tinued to establish herself as one of Region l's dominant domi-nant centers Tuesday scoring Viewmont's first 14 points against Davis. Sparked by Jones domination of the paint, the Vikes rolled to a 9-point win over the Lady Darts, 41-32. 41-32. Jones finished the game with 26, 20 of which came in the first half. On the other side of the ball, a tough Viking pressure defense combined with a Davis shooting cold spell held the Darts' shooting percentage to just under 30 percent. Chany Morgan led her fellow Davis hoopsters with 16. The loss dropped the Darts to a region record of 2-8 as of Tuesday. L |
