(Clipper photo by Patrick Mitchell) Developers 'upbeat' about project By PAUL CHALLIS News Editor 4 BOUNTIFUL The Bountiful Redevelopment Agency (RDA) failed to get a quorum Wednesday and only heard an informal report from Joh an sen-Thackeray and Co. on progress made toward the proposed commercial development on Block 29, downtown. "We feel very upbeat about it," Developer John Thackeray said. "We haven't gotten any commitments yet, but most of our efforts look promising and we are pleased with the progress that has been made." On Jan. 9 the Bountiful RDA signed an agreement to pursue with Johan sen-Thackeray and Co. for a six-anchor shopping center for Block 29 in downtown Bountiful. The developer, de-veloper, responsible for Foothill Village in Salt Lake City, is using the first 90 days to get firm commitments from possible clients for the 1 80.000 sauare foot protect. The buildings along 46 South Main to Center were the first to be demolished by the RDA in this part of the downtown area making room for the new shopping plaza. MacKay Kim Inc., is in the final stages of the clean-up process after demolishing the buildings. MacKay Kim won the job with a bid of $18,220, over 14 other bidders from the intermountain area. Thackeray said his company has made progress pro-gress with property owners in the area with many "showing interest" in selling. "Many of the property owners are asking questions and I see that as a good sign. Some seem to question if this isn't just another proposal and some are skeptical as we aren 't the first to approach them on this type of project." On the financial end Thackeray reported that bankers have given the proposal "favorable treatment" and that all aspects of the project , "appear promising." Thackeray wouldn't give any specific infor mation on any details but would only say "negotiations are under way," in regard to property or clients for the project now into its second month in the first 90 days segment of the option agreement. Mayor Robert Linnell told the developers that the council might hold a RDA meeting next Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. if enough board members to form a quorum could attend to handle the business scheduled for the meeting. "We will try to have a meeting before the next regularly scheduled one on March 20," Linnell said. Among the items on the agenda that would have been acted on was a report and update on downtown demolition contract with MacKay Kim; an update on downtown project with Johansen-Thackeray and Co.; consideration of additions to the option agreement with Johansen-Thackeray and Co. and approval of executive session for the reason of acquisition of real property. |
