Blaser was born 13 years ago with a rare form of muscular dystrophy. He has had many health problems that required hospitalization. Th doctors didn't expect him to live very long. He has surprised and delighted everyone with whom he has come in contact ever since. Blaser began school at age five at Muir Elementary and was able to join in all the activities. When he was in first grade, his family decided to take him to Hawaii in hopes that the warmer, moist air would improve his condition. He attended school for only a few weeks, then became so ill he had to have a tracheotomy to save his life. Blaser returned to Utah and after several weeks' recuperation in the hospital, returned home and began home tutoring. The young boy returned to school in second grade. His ability to walk decreased until he required a wheelchair. He was more than excited to get a motorized model two years ago. Blaser attended school full time through the sixth grade. He now attends Mueller Park Junior High as a seventh grader, half a day and does his homework while on a ventilator in bed. He is an excellent math student and can figure in his head while others are still writing out the problem. He learns quickly and easily. He has a talent for telling stories. He participates in class and has opinions on many subjects. He has a quick wit and positive attitude concerning life. His philosophy is, "You only live once, you might as well live it up!" He is very much concerned with the U.S. government govern-ment and especially the national debt. He has an ability to make and save money. He has his own safe next to his bed. Blaser has a supportive family and many friends, including in-cluding teachers. He is always concerned about what he is learning and how it will help him earn a living. |
