Show 89 interchange bodly needed Plans to remove nine homes and a Winder Dairy building as I prelude to constructing a $10 million interchange of U.S. 89 and the Hill Field Road (SR 193) require some careful consideration. con-sideration. The Utah Department of Transportation project would be part of the U.S. 89 corridor upgrade. A UDOT spokesman says the present intersection, Utah 193 and U.S. 89 is one of the busiest in Davis County, carrying the majority of the traffic from the South Gate of HAFB to the Harrison Blvd. area of I Ogden. Hill Field Road (SR 193) runs east-west along the southern edge of Hill Air Force Base, and is a main commuter route for motorists corning from south and southeast of the facility. UDOT plans a modified diamond-shaped interchange with four ramps, an overpass, a traffic signal, two service roads and a direct connection interchange. A second plan option for the interchange calls for a three-tiered three-tiered "direct connection' structure. But that would require removal of two more homes and cost $3.2 million extra. The proposals will be aired during a public hearing on Feb. 27 at the Layton High School Auditorium. Construction of the interchange is important to the over-all improved safe traffic flow along 89, an expressway that has long been an important link between Davis County and the east bench of Ogden including Weber State University. Until this major traffic bottleneck is corrected, nothing else that is accomplished along 89 will correct the traffic congestion prob-lem prob-lem that builds up daily, especially at peak hours when i workers from Hill Field are trying to get to home. |
