Show TAKING ON WATER T - 'Joe Versus t h e Volcano' is sadly a burn-out Tom Hanks is good. Unfortunately, Unfortunate-ly, the producers of "Joe Versus the Volcano" expected his talents to carry the entire movie, and that was not possible. If someone other than Hanks had played the lead, the show would probably have been a total flop. Meg Ryan stars with Hanks, but the character she portrayed was so shallow, it would have been difficult for Kathryn Hepburn to make it look good. A four-year-old sat through the performance and about three- quarters of the way through asked, "When does it get funny?" It never did. The plot is so predictable that there were no surprises. The lines are so unimaginative, that one knew what was coming before it was said. And, the moral about greedy rich people was so blatant as to be boring. bor-ing. Other than that, Hanks is always fun to watch. This is a movie that may be worth wor-th a dollar to rent, but if a family paid full price to see it at a theater, they would regret it |
