The Roy player dives back to first base and is safe. Vikes lose valiant fight with Roy The Viewmont men's baseball team struggled before losing to Roy 8 to 4 Fnday. Viewmont drops to 2 and 1 in region play while Roy climbs to 3 and 0. The score was tied, at two runs each at the end of the first inning. Going into the seventh it was 5 to 4, Roy. Viewmont had a chance to take the lead with men on base several times throughout the game. But it just was not destined to be. Roy scored three more runs while Viewmont went limp the last two innings. "Things did not go our way," said coach Wade Bender. "A couple of times we hit line drives down the baseline and the Roy players would turn their heads, stick out their gloves to protect themselves and catch the ball," said Bender. 'I couldn't believe it," said Bender. "Then we had a chance to make a crucial double play, and our second baseman dropped the ball. It just seemed like we were not supposed to win this game," he concluded. "It was unnerving, but we are not going to let it bother us now. We have a good team and if we play up to our potential we should take region," said Bender. "We have great depth in pitching, pit-ching, and we're good defensively. We do need to work on consistency in hitting. Our players work hard and they are really a close bunch," Bender continued. "We're going to do just fine." |
