Show Braves dominated West in Region 6 soccer match ByGARYBLODGETT Sports Editor BOUNTIFUL - Bountiful High's dominance with both offense and defense led the Braves to their fourth consecutive Region Six soccer victory vic-tory last Friday afternoon. The Braves dominated both ends of the field as they walloped the West High Panthers, 9-1, in a game played at Millcreek Junior High. It was the fourth straight region loss for the visitors from Salt Lake City. Braves' coach Dave Wigham substituted freely and played the entire junior varsity team most of the last 15 minutes. Although the dominating team - West didn't score until the final minutes of the game --Bountiful --Bountiful players missed several high percentage percen-tage kicks. West didn't take a "shot on goal" for more than 30 minutes in the first half. Devan Sellers scored three consecutive goals two in the first half and one to open the second se-cond half; and Mark Jolley, Jason Haslam, John Hardy, Anthony Gillette, Sean Colton and John Brady each scored a goal. Haslam also had three assists all from out-of-bounds comer kicks Jolly had two assists, and Sellers and Stock each added one assist. Bountiful got off to a quick start with two scores in the first five minutes. Hardy scored first on an in-bounds corner kick by Haslam with less than two minutes played. Gillette then raced downfield, forced the West goalie to leave his net, and Gillette dribbled around the goalie to get off the shot of the unprotected goal. The Braves then missed several shots on goal before Colton took a lead pass from Jolley to outrace a single defender to the net. Jolley' s free kick following a penalty hit the cross bar and was "headed" into the net by Haslam. Haslam then had two comer kicks which resulted in scores when Sellers took both inbound in-bound kicks and headed them into the net to give the Braves a 6-0 lead at intermission. Sellers opened the second half by dribbling half way down the field, faked the goalie out of position, and went in for an easy score. The most beautiful play of the game came when Brandon Stock dribbled down the left sideline to the left comer. He kicked a side pass to Jolley who was in perfect position to head the ball into the goal. Bountiful's final score was a free kick by John Brady, and West's only score was a free kick in the waning minutes of the game.
