Show Further arrests expected in vehicle theft scheme By JANIS STUART Continued investigation by authorities au-thorities points to the possible arrest of another former Hill Air Force Base man. The arrest would stem from a multi-state scheme in which new Jeeps were stolen from car lots, given identification numbers from salvage vehicles and sold to unsuspecting un-suspecting buyers. Members of the Utah State Tax Commission are involved in a joint V investigation with the Michigan State Police, the Ohio Department of Motor Vehicles and the Illinois Attorney General's office concerning concern-ing the complicated theft operation. The operation has involved up to 10 individuals in Utah, Michigan, Illinois Il-linois and Ohio. One former Hill Air Force Base policeman, Mark David Sexton, 22, was arrested March 30 by the Illinois Il-linois Attorney General's office on CONTINUED ON PG. 2 TH E FTS CONTINUED FROM PAGE 1 seven Utah second-degree felony counts of racketeering, forgery and possession of stolen property in connection with three Utah vehicle transactions. Larry Ball of the Utah State Tax Commission was instrumental in discovering three separate incidents in which altered titles reflected the sale of new Jeep Cherokees or Laredos by the defendant, and possibly his brother. The titles apparently ap-parently had been issued for salvage vehicles bought at auction in Michigan and Ohio. The autos with the altered Vehicle Vehi-cle Identification Numbers (VINs) were discovered to have been stolen from Dan Eastman Jeep-Eagle, Layton Hills Chrysler and from Jim Whetton Buick. ' I 1 |
