Show Springville man helps to rescue Cfomese Fireman Apprentice Robert A. Clark. TJSN, son of Mr.- and Mrs. Horace Clark of 565 So. Main St., Springrville, participated partici-pated in the rescue of 37 Hong Kon Chinese sailors from a grounded Liberian freight e r while serving in the Western Pacific aboard the attack aircraft air-craft carrier USS Coral Sea. A foot-high silver trophy-was trophy-was presented the captain and crew of the Coral Sea on behalf be-half of the master and crew of the "Loyal Fortunes" which ran aground on the Pratas Reef 170 miles south of Hong Kong. On November 6, 1967, the Coral Sea was en route to Hong Kong when she received the distress signal from the freighter, and lifted the crew off the ship by helicopter the following morning. Following the 24-hour ordeal the stricken freighter's crew spent the night aboard the carrier car-rier and returned to Hong Kong the following day. The Coral Sea is now operating oper-ating with the U.S. Seventh Fleet in the Gulf of Tonkin off the coast of North Vietnam. |
