New Members on Development Board Several new members have been appointed to the Southern Utah State College Development Board. Welcomed at the board's , annual January meeting were new members Don Marchant, president of the SUSC Alumni ASsociaiton and Cedar City businessman; S. Paul Whetman, manager of Walker Bank, Cedar City; SUSC professors R. Clayton Huntsman and Steven H. Heath; staff representative Gary Tom; and SUSC students . .Natasha Carter and Janice Bickmore. The 20-member board met at the SUSC Alumni House. Anne Judd, president of the SUSC Development Board, directed the meeting. "The purpose of the Development Board," Judd said, "is to foster, encourage, en-courage, recommend and support SUSC programs by obtaining resources from . voluntary sources. We are looking forward to a ..very . i productive and rewarding ; year." Two major committees have been established by the board. The Foundation, Business, and Industry Committee, chaired by Cedar City businessman Elloyd Marchant, will contact foundations and businesses for scholarships and gifts, Judd said. The Annual Giving Committee, chaired by Natasha Carter, will manage .the Annual Giving Campaign and the college's annual telephone raising program, the Telethon. Special fund-raising ' projects will be under the direction of Phil Robison, SUSC director of Development, and Francis W. Betenson, vice-president and manager, First Security Bank, Cedar City. "The Development Board has been vital to the college over the past several years irt helping" obtain much needed financial support and gifts of equipment," Robison said. He noted tha the Ashcroft Observatory, now nearing t completion, is one of the . - - many Development Boarck ; projects. " "Citizens "of" this ' a-rea, as well as the college, will be benefited greatly by the existence of the observatory," he said. |
