The blaze melted the aluminium on the side of the bus and caused extensive damage to the luggage compartment. The Las Vegas to Salt Lake City bound bus was idling at the stop behing the Lunt Motel on Hoover Ave. when a suspected steel bearing rupture caused fuel in the return fuel line . to be sprayed under the bus. Firemen arrived on the scene at 8:23 a.m. -three minutes after receiving the call- and had the fire under control within five minutes using booster and foam lines. The bus was driven by A. Juarez and the estimated 25 passengers were not in the bus when the fire began. Fire Chief David Bentley said that the district manager of the bus line from Las Vegas '., Nev. was pleased ; with the job which the Fire Department Depart-ment had done. He also said that the bus line's head mechanic from Las Vegas thought that the cause of the lire might have been a broken pump'. Bentley said that the responding firemen were dismissed at 9:10 a.m. |
