Show SUSC co-ed named as finalist Montana. The winner of the contest, John Pribyl, Montana State University, will now compete for the Ryan award in a national contest being held in Washington, D.C. Christianson and another SUSC student, Rick Dominguez, Las Vegas, were selected to compete for the prestigious scholarship following their performances per-formances in SUSC's fall quarter musical "Working". A Southern Utah State College coed was recently named a regional finalist in competition for a national acting award established in honor of Irene Ryan, best remembered as Granny in television's "The Beverly Hillbillies." Diann Christianson, Orem, was one of the 10 finalists selected in regional competition held at the Rocky Mountain Theater Conference in Missoula, "Judges at Diann's audition said that she performed per-formed with 'great openness and sensitivity'," R. Scott Phillips, theater promotions coordinator at SUSC, said. "It is a great honor to be invited to compete for the Ryan scholarship; and it is an even great honor to be selected as a finalist in the contest." Christianson is a junior theater arts major at SUSC. She is a transfer student from Snow College where she appeared as Golde in "Fiddler on the Roof", and as Suzy in "Wait until Dark". In addition to her appearance in "Working" at SUSC she played the lead role in the college's melodramatic presentation "Little Mary and the Rangers". She has also worked in summer stock, appearing at the Pink Garter in Jacksonhole, Wyoming, and at the Sundance Summer Theater, Utah. Christianson is a 1969 graduate of Orem High School where she was named best actress her senior year. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Christianson, Orem. |
