Show Lady T-birds face Snow -C.E.U. SCORES FOR LADY T-BIRDS. Chris Tee, 22, of the Southern Utah State College T-Birds goes up for an easy bucket in battle against Mesa in action Sat. night. Lady T-Birds T-Birds picked up a pair of wins in conference play defeating Western State 68-66 then came back Sat. to romp over Mesa 98 to 65. Chris Tea accounted for 33 points and 24 rebounds in the win over Mesa and 19 points and 13 rebounds in the win over Western States. A single nonconference game this week and a lone nonleague contest next week will provide the final respite of the season for Southern Utah State College's women's basketball team. The Thunderbirds will host tough Snow College Sat. at 7:30 p.m. for this week's only action. Next week the only game comes Feb. 16 at Price when the 'Birds challenge College of Eastern Utah. . "We've just gone through a rather hectic portion of our schedule, including key conference games," Coach Joy Peterson says. "We aren't looking for the games to be any easier, but it will be good to get some of the pressure of a conference race off us, and it will be good to be only playing one game for each of the next two weeks." Following the temporary "rest period," SUSC embarks em-barks on a buzzsaw schedule for the final week of the regular season. Depending on their success in the final week, the Thunderbirds could move directly into postseason action. Following .". the CEU contest, the 'Birds host Adams State (February 22) and Fort Lewis (February 23) in their final games of the regular Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference schedule. Then (February 26), it's a return shot at CEU, this time in Cedar City, before an ambitious challenge of nationally ranked (division I) Brigham Young University, February 28 at Provo. "There's no question about how tough our final four games will be nor about how important they will be to our hopes for playoff berths," Peterson explains. "We still have a shot at the conference championship, if we can beat Adams State and Fort Lewis." SUSC moved into contention con-tention for at least ai . share of the RMAC title last week with victories over defending defen-ding champion Western State (68-66) and Mesa College (98-65).. It was only the second loss for the two leaders of the RMAC's Western Division. "We are playing better recently," Peterson praises. Chris Tea had maybe her best game ever (33 points and 24 rebounds) against Mesa. The passing was good, and we had. five players in double figures." Peterson also praised the play of Natalie Smith and Theresa Versluis off the bench and the defensive play of Carolyn Dodds. In two previous meetings with Snow, this week's opponent, op-ponent, SUSC has split. The T-Birds whipped the Badgers handily in the finals of the Color Country Classic, 75-59; but lost two weeks ago in Ephraim, 69-66. |
