Show 8th Graders 4-0 at Mid-Season The Cedar Jr. High 8th grade completed the first half of their schedule with a perfect 4-0 record. The first game was played in St. George against Dixie's 8th grade, and despite the absence of starting guard Craig Cardon, CJH won 53-42. 53-42. Mark Esplin was leading scorer with 17, followed by Doug Greenhalgh with 12 and Robert Pearson with 11. The next game was on Jan. 19, in Moapa Valley. Though the schedule called for an 8th grade game the Moapa Pirates played their 9th grade. CJH led for all but a few moments of the 4th quarter with CJH winning 36-30. CJH won the game from the foul line hitting 18 of 24 shots for 72 percent. CJH played without Mark Esplin, their leading scorer. Robert Pearson was leading scorer with 11. Roger Hulet had 1 10 and Craig Cardon with 8. CJH used a tight zone against the bigger team and Moapa couldn't score overtop. CJH traveled to Milford on Jan. 22 Cedar trailed 8-4 after one quarter but got untracked in the 2nd period and led 18-9 at half time. In the 2nd half the reserves played the majority of the time and the final was 40-21. Robert Pearson led the scoring with 7 points followed by Hulet, Cardon, Mark Esplin, and Ben Felix with 6 points. The game on Wed. the 23, was with Hurricane in Cedar. Hurricane was quick but couldn't stay with CJH's height and fell behind 18-2. But Cedar used all their reserves and the game was close 4he rest of the time. The final was 36-29 for Cedar 8th. For CJH 13 players scored with Craig Cardon leading with 6. CJH 8th grade is averaging 41 points per game. They are shooting 36 percent from the field and 60 percent from the foul line. Mark Esplin and Robert Pearson are the leading scorers, averaging 8 points per game, Craig Cardon 6 pints, Roger Hulet and Doug Greenhalgh 5 5 points. CJH 8th plays Milford Tues., Hurricane Wed. and Dixie 8th next Wed. ( 13th) at 3:00 p.m. |
