Show Dixie Boys Honored At USC Ceremonies Combined military and academic ceremonies were featured at the 4Sth annual commencement exercises ex-ercises of the University of Southern South-ern California college of dentistry held Saturday, June 2 on the university campus. At these services George Howard Whitehead of St. George and McKay Mc-Kay Neilson of Washington were among the 77 seniors who participated parti-cipated in the cap and gown processional pro-cessional across the campus and received the degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery. Of this group 31 were commissioned as lieutenants lieuten-ants tj.g. I in the Naval reserve. President Rufus B. von Klein-schmeid Klein-schmeid of USC officiated and delivered the commencement address ad-dress at the exercises. The Naval officers have been ordered to immediate im-mediate duty according to Dr. Julio Endleman, dean of the institution. in-stitution. The graduation was held at Bovard Auditorium. Utah and Dixie junior college were distinctly honored in these ceremonies, reports A. K. Hafen, who with Mrs. Hafen, Mr. and Mrs. Israel Neilson and Mrs. Gordon Gor-don Whitehead attended. Of the (Continued on page eight) USC Graduation (Continued from first page) 77 graduates, 14 were Utahns. Of the seven highest honors awarded, five went to Utah boys, including Howard Whitehead. The highest 12 per cent, comprised of nine graduates, who were accorded Omricon Kappa Ipsilon, included both Mr. Whitehead and Mr. Neil-son Neil-son as well as-, two other Utahns. The Phi Kappa Phi honors given the highest ten per cent, honored eight students, and Mr. Whitehead White-head was one of three Utahns so honored. BothMf. Whitehead and Mr. Neilson are Dixie college graduates, who have made outstanding out-standing records, as have many others from Dixie who have attended at-tended this institution. This high per cent of honor students from Utah was commended by the University officials, states Mr. Hafen. |
