Show George W. Gibson, 60 Dies At Home In Hurricane, June 2nd HURRICANE, Utah George W. (Dardy) Gibson, 60, died at his home in Hurricane on Saturday, June 2 at 3:30 a.m. after an extended ex-tended illness. Funeral services were held in the North ward chapel on Monday, June 4, with Bishop Allen J. Stout conducting. Music numbers were "Come Unto Jesus" by Vernon Church, Owen Burgner, A. K. Larson and Webb Barber; solo, "Silver Haired Daddy of Mine," by Clinton Isom, with Irene Hinton at the piano; "Whispering Hope" by Afton W. Gibson and "School Thy Feelings" by the faculty quartet. Speakers were Ivan Barrett of the stake presidency, Senator Claud Hirschi and Bishop Stout. Mr. Barrett congratulated Mrs. Gibson on their splendid family, before whom their father set a good example of right living. Senator Hirschi told of Mr. Gibson's Gib-son's honesty on the cattle range in his younger days. He said he had deep religious convictions, a wonderful memory and always had the interest of his fellowmen at heart. He was one of the first High Councilmen of Zion Park stake. Bishop Stout also paid tribute to the life of Mr. Gibson. Prayers were by Joel Roundy and Orvil Webb. The grave in the Hurricane cemetery was dedicated dedi-cated by R. P. Woodbury. Born November 6, 1884 at Grafton, Graf-ton, Utah, George W. Gibson was a son of Mr. and Mrs. George A. Gibson, who were among the early families to establish the town of Hurricane, where he has since resided. He has been active in church and community affairs. Surviving besides his widow, Jessie H. Gibson, and his parents, are four daughters, Mrs. Leslie H. Deans, Mrs. Eddie Welch, Mrs. Reed Sevy, all of Salt Lake City and Miss Inez Gibson of Hurricane; Hurri-cane; four sons, Cpl: Malon J. Gibson, stationed with the Army Engineers in Italy; Mads A. Gibson Gib-son of Boulder City, Nev.; Brent W. Gibson of Salt Lake City; Pvt. Winston T. Gibson stationed at Amarillo, Texas; six grandchildren, grandchild-ren, three brothers, H.M.Gibson, J. E. Gibson of Hurricane and W. A. Gibson of North Hollywood, Calif., two sisters, Mrs. Jesse Bliss of Hurricane and Mrs. Dell Smith of Cedar City. |
