Show HURRICANE Miss Julia Whitney Reporter A welcome home party for Elders Clell Covington and Hal Bradshaw was held Wednesday night in the north ward chapel. Dancing, modern mod-ern and old-time, and a program filled the evening. Maud Reed and Pauline Cambell played a piano duet; the north ward ladies' quartet sang "God Bless America", R. P. Woodbury gave a reading proclaiming the troubles of a deacon, dea-con, Elders Covington and Bradshaw Brad-shaw related a few amusing missionary mis-sionary experiences. Mr. and Mrs. LuWayne Wood were week-end visitors at the home of Mrs. Anna Wood. Mr. Wood was one of the speakers in the south ward Sacrament meeting. meet-ing. Following the suggestion of Maurice Nuttall, he gave a report of the progress of the Boulder ward since its organization about nine years ago. Orval Isom of Cedar City was a Sunday visitor at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Isom. Gordon Stout, who is employed in Las Vegas, spent the week-end at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Stout. Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Coon of Salt Lake City arrived Saturday for a visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Scow. The north ward D.U.P. entertained enter-tained at a surprise party honoring honor-ing Lottie Russell on her 69th birthday anniversary. Old time songs were sung and Indian experiences ex-periences told. Lunch was served and the guest of honor was presented pre-sented with a gift from the camp. The Alice Louise Reynolds club held its regular meeting on April 18th at the home of Mrs. Amelia Wilson with Mrs. Maurice Wilson as co-hostess. Mrs. Pauline Cam-bell Cam-bell reviewed the book Andrew Jackson by Marquis. Nedra Gibson and Laurel Deans, who are employed in Salt Lake City were home for the week-end. Harold Glore spent the latter part of the week in Hurricane visiting friends. He is in Salt Lake City at Fort Douglas. Mr. and Mrs. William Millsap of Salt Lake City are here for an extended visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alma Wright. Mr. and Mrs. Reed Bradshaw of Cedar City were Sunday visitors visit-ors at the home of William E. Woodbury. Mrs. Anna Wood returned with her son, LuWayne, to Boulder City for a short visit. Nads and Malon Gibson and Ray Spendlove went back to Las Vegas. The rain thwarted plans for a hay rack ride by the north ward missionary class, so the boys met at the chapel to honor the two recently returned missionaries, Clell Covington and Hal Bradshaw. Brad-shaw. Games were played and marshmallows and weiners roasted around the fire place. Mrs. Marie Stanworth returned from her week in Phoenix Sunday after a visit with her friends and relatives. Mr. and Mrs. William E. Woodbury Wood-bury spent Sunday with friends at Mesquite, Nevada. Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Judd of Fredonia were Sunday visitors at the home of George I. Isom. Mrs. Wilford Brooksby and daughter, Juanita of Fredonia were Sunday visitors at the home of George Shamo. Mr. and Mrs. Ben Lee recently of Logan, spent the week-end in Hurricane on their way to their new residence in Panguitch. Mrs. Lee will stay in Hurricane until school is out so that she can take her children with her. Mr. and Mrs. Finley Judd left Tuesday for Los Angeles where they will meet his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. James Judd, who are returning from three years in the Australian mission. He is sailing on the S. S. Lurline and will arrive in Los Angeles on May 2. Mrs. Norris Brown is leaving Thursday to live in Kanab. Mrs. Redd of Grand Junction, Colorado, and Mr. and Mrs. Price Reed of Richfield were week-end visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Hall. All the Stevens Garage employees employ-ees and partners were guests of the Garage at a chicken dinner held at the cafe last Saturday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Holt of Marysvale were week-end visitors at Hurricane. Mr. Leo K. Homer, who is em-played em-played in Sacramento stopped in Hurricane Monday to take his family to Logan to attend his father's funeral. His father, Benjamin Ben-jamin King Homer, 74, died Sunday Sun-day after seven years of illness. Dr. L. C. Snow and wife and Mrs. Anna S. Clement were Thursday Thurs-day and Friday visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Chauncey Sandberg. Dr. Snow is a bone specialist of Salt Lake and came down to conduct a clinic in Cedar City. A $1300 road improvement project pro-ject is being carried on the streets of Hurricane. This project consists con-sists of graveling and leveling the streets. Work was begun on the high school block and will include in-clude about seven blocks. |
