Show Kolob District Given High Praise Reservoirs Would Make Ideal Fishing-Scenic Fishing-Scenic Recreational Areas Enthusiastic praise is given for the Kolob district by those making the trip into this section on May 29 and 30. They report fine opportunities op-portunities for water storage, fish propagation and recreational areas with some of the most outstanding out-standing scenic attractions in this section. The first of a series of reservoirs reser-voirs is proposed at the Big Creek Kolob reservoir site with three others below' that point located at Blue Springs, Home Valley and the . Kolob Sinks. It is estimated that the first would have a storage stor-age capacity of 140,000 acre feet and could be built a't next to the lowest cost of any of the proposed pro-posed reservoir sites in the state. At the proposed dam sites the water is clear and there would be no silt problem. While Soil Conservation Con-servation officials who were in the group, urge the need for conservation con-servation work, they point out that the need is not so serious as in this lower country. The St. George Chamber of Commerce and County Commissioners Commis-sioners have gone on record as favoring the establishment of these reservoir sites and the planting of fish in the water thus created. They declare that this is one of the outstanding scenic attractions in the county as well as recreational areas. Approximately 30 people were in the group making the trip. Those attending from here included Commissioner Com-missioner N. R. Frei, Lawrence Wadsworth, president of the Chamber of Commerce; LeRoy Cox, representative of the Chamber Cham-ber of Commerce; Melvin S. Hamilton, district conservationist; R. B. McAllister, range technician from Leeds; John L. Waters, SCS engineer, St. George office and Alfred H. Bateman, assistant agronomist. agro-nomist. Also Miss Nelda Cornelius, Cor-nelius, Miss Rhoda Andrus and Miss Jane Pace. A large group attended from Virgin and the east end of the county with Henry Cornelius taking tak-ing an active part in the program. First stop was made at Gordon Blake's ranch where the group was given their breakfast by the Blakes. Mr. Wadsworth declares that he hasn't eaten as much or slept as soundly for 20 years. A stop was made at Ice Cave where ice may be obtained the year around. At one point the "D" on the hill here in St. George is clearly visible, declare members of the party. |
