Show Hurricane F.F.A. Boys Return From Week's j Tour Of California HURRICANE, Utah Elmer Graff and Lcland Stout returned Friday with the 38 FFA boys that they had taken on a week's tour of the California coast and way points. The trip was made by truck with one of the boys reporting that the entire cost to him, including in-cluding his share of the transportation, trans-portation, was $5. Mr. Graff states that others spent more depending depend-ing on how much each spent on entertainment and articles that interested the individual The first night's stop was made at Bakersfield. The next day they visited the Kern county high school's 100 acre farm where the boys were given the opportunity to see many interesting experiments experi-ments and methods of fanning. Following this they went for a swim in the big canal that flows (Continued on page eight) Hurricane F.F.A. Trip (Continued from first page) through the valley. The next day the group went on to San Francisco and visited the Fair. One day and night was spent in this vicinity. Many points of interest were viewed such as the Golden Gate Park and ac-quarium. ac-quarium. Leaving San Francisco they visited the big trees and various farms along the way. Of special interest to the boys was the Earnest Ear-nest Sexton Farm at Santa Barbara. At this farm they had the privilege of going through a packing plant where they saw the latest methods of cleaning, sorting, sizing and packing of the fruit and its trip to the refrigeration refrigera-tion plant or into refrigerator cars. In commenting on their trip Mr. Graff declared that one of the greatest benefits the boys received re-ceived was the observance of the clean-cultivated farms, pruning and various methods used on these up-to-date farms and orchards. "I believe that a boy can learn faster for himself on certain things by seeing how it is done than through books. And for this reason alone, these trips would be well worth the effort and money expended", declared Mr. Graff. In the opinion of many, it is partly because of these trips and the interest that Mr. Graff takes in his boys that he is able to turn out many outstanding students in his department at the Hurricane high school. To many, these trips represent the first opportunity that they have of seeing other parts of the country. For instance, when the group stopped to bathe in the ocean at Long Beach, Calif., it was the first time that most of the boys had ever been in the ocean. |
