While there, Mr. Thompson will attend a J. C. Penney convention. They expect to return by Saturday night. Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Nelson entertained at a dinner party on Thursday night in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Nelson, former Dixieites, but who now reside in Washington, D. C. Wayne Vance, who is registered register-ed at the Molar Barber school in Salt Lake, was here to visit with his relatives July 24. Mrs. Jack Mathews, who has spent the past month in St. George, is leaving for her home in Los Angeles, this (Thursday) evening. Mrs. Hannah C. Pike will accompany her to remain a week. Miss Mona Woodbury returned Tuesday evening from a three week's trip to the east, accompanied accom-panied by her mother, Mrs. Vivien Woodbury, she visited Niagara Falls, Chicago, the Fair in New York and with Doctor and Mrs. Grant Lund and daughter in Washington, D. C. Esther Woodbury, Elaine Hafen, Rhoda Cannon and Grace Cottam Cot-tam accompanied by Maurice Briggs, of Delta, motored to Alton, Utah, Saturday evening where they were joined by several other friends and enjoyed a trip through Bryce Canyon, Cedar Breaks and to Navajo Lake over Sunday and Monday. H. - L. Reid, who is employed at Zion Park for the summer, spent Sunday and Monday with his family in St. George. Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Hall and small son, Perry, her mother, Mrs. Heber Hardy, visited Douglas's brother, Lorin, in Compton, Calif., leaving Saturday night and returning re-turning Tuesday. Rulon Orton left last Thursday evening for Salt Lake City on business. Walter Brooks returned last Saturday from Logan where he has been attending the U.S.A.C. summer course for coaches. He reports a very profitable and constructive con-structive line of work was given with many coaches enrolled. He will return to Hurricane to handle the athletic work this winter. Antone Moody returned Saturday Satur-day from Logan where he has been attending summer school. Miss Fern Starr came home Saturday from Logan where she attended school the past winter and summer sessions. She will return in September to resume her studies. Miss Ruth Wall, instructor of Hurricane high school home economics eco-nomics department visited in St. George Saturday evening on her way to Los Angeles to spend her vacation after attending summer sum-mer school in Logan at the U.S.A.C. Charlotte Heaton of Kanab also returned this way from the U.S.A.C. summer session. Dr. and Mrs. M. F. Burgess and Everett Knapp returned today from a three week's vacation trip to Idaho and northeastern Washington. Wash-ington. Miss Erma Bentley returned on Monday from Provo where she has been employed for the past several weeks. Gene Gregerson and George Whipple arrived with the early morning bus Sunday from spending spend-ing their vacation in Los Angeles and visiting with Mr. Whipple's brother-in-law who is there receiving re-ceiving treatment for injuries sustained sus-tained recently in Pioche where he was employed at mining. Sheriff and Mrs. Antone B. Prince were New Harmony visitors Monday, attending a special family celebration honoring honor-ing Mr. Prince's mother. Mr. and Mrs. Hela Seegmiller and son, Donald, motored to Pine Valley early Monday and spent the day. Dan Hightower, owner of the Zion Canoyn Curio Shop, left last Thursday for Los Angeles on business. Mrs. Ann Hall of Hurricane is spending the week in St. George with her sister and mother, Mrs. Philena Pickett, due to the latter's illness. Miss Delia Cottam spent July 23 and 24 in Parowan with her sister, Mrs. Alma Evans, and other relatives. Mrs. Philena Pickett and Mrs. Ovilla L. Empey are reported seriously ill at this writing, with small hope of their recovery. The T.A.R. club members were guests last Thursday of Mrs. Owen Pendleton. Mrs. Helen Bleak won high score, Mrs. Pratt Prince second place and Mrs. Ferd Stucki consolation. Refreshments Refresh-ments were served to 16. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph J. Miss Lenore Perkins was a hospital patient, July 21 to 25. Mrs. Lizzie Lamb visited in St. George over Tuesday and Wednesday Wed-nesday on her way to Los Angeles. Mrs. Mary A. Hafen, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Leavitt and Mrs. Leonard Reber and children, all of Bunkerville, visited in St. George Wednesday on their way home from spending a week in Blanding, Utah, with relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Karl Hutchings and small son visited relatives in Beaver July 24. Mrs. Jennie Hall of Washington, who has been under medical care at the hospital for several days, returned home July 23. Miss Shirley Simmons spent the week end in Cedar City as the guest of Mrs. Mildred Syrett. |
