Show Santa Clara Honors Pioneers On Sunday, July 23rd SANTA CLARA, Utah Barbara Staheli Graff Stucki, the first child born at Santa Clara, and Joseph Graff, the first boy born there, were honored at sacrament services given Sunday under the direction of the D.U.P., together with the last two living pioneers, Herman Gubler and Christian Stucki, who came with the Swiss company November 28, 1861. Barbara Bar-bara Staheli Graff Stucki was born December 25, 1861, and Joseph Graff, January 4, 1863. It might be interesting to note that when the big flood came on New Year's day of 1862, and washed away the Santa Clara fort, Barbara Staheli was just one week old. She and her mother were the last two to be removed (Continued on page eight) Pioneers Honored (Continued from first page) from the flood-surrounded fort, which was accomplished by tying a rope from a tree to the fort to guide Jacob Hamblin as he carried them to safety. The wall to which the rope' was tied fell, but the people on the bank grabed Barbara Staheli and her mother. The rescuer would have been lost in the flood had not an Indian thrown him a rope and pulled him to shore.
