Show Santa Claus believers Dear Editor: In 1936 they had the wag it was bad enough to have Junior believe in Santa Claus but now Dr. Townsend had the old people believing in him too. It seems that from the "Fact Sheet" on Naples City we have a group in Naples who believe in Santa Claus too. They tell us that we can make new city and provide its services with no costs to us tax-pavers. tax-pavers. In fact they allude we might even get a refund. We can elect a new mayor and five city councilmen, fix our roads, and correct every flaw in our zoning with a new and beautiful city of Naples. Though 1936 was the period of "Crack Pots" I wonder if here we don't have a few "Crack Pots." Mr. Migliori seems to show that their "fact sheet" had estimated revenues from sales tax at $600,000 when in actual ac-tual fact there was only about $200,000. The "fact sheet" estimate on costs for equipment were likewise way under the costs one could purchase the mentioned equipment. When they state that we can build a city office, hire a mayor, elect city councilmen and hire a city attorney plus add law enforcement officers with no added taxes we begin to wonder if they are not believing in Santa Claus too. Further Uintah County is not going to lose their tax revenue and then do the police work for them. Already we have an over-staffed police department in the county as well as Vernal City and what makes them think we need a new city police for for Naples. However, does one believe for one minute that such companies as The Western Company Com-pany and others will not demand police protection if they become part of Naples City? Does anyone believe with Vernal City paying $48,000 per year plus extra for contract work that Naples City Ci-ty can get up without a heafty attorney bill? Does anyone believe the am-bigious am-bigious contracts for Ashley Sewer and Water, Naples Water Company and other articles of incorporation were made at a nominal cost? If they do they had better look at the thousands of dollars dished out for those contracts. Then about controlling our growth and zoning, let us make this clear Vernal Ver-nal City has no control whatever with zoning in Naples. With one group wanting wan-ting more industry so they can sell their property and another group wanting to keep out industry just how can anyone satisfy both? What will our "Santa Believers" gain by creating a extra entity of government? govern-ment? Further just what are we gaining gain-ing by creating a city to keep Vernal out? If we want to keep Vernal out it would seem the logical procedure would be to challenge their annexations at the source. I am sure that not one of the city's annexations have been made by complying with the laws and rules for such annexations. Then why must it be either Vernal City, Ci-ty, Naples City or a county wide city? It would seem with farms and blocks about 1 mile or Vt mile apart that the logical thing to do would be to have just a plain old rural country area with no city. We just don't need to encompass the whole valley in one, two or three cities, and with Davis growing faster than Naples where is the logic having them unincorporated and Naples as a city? In fact if we take out the sales tax revenue there would be no drive anywhere for a Naples City or any other city. Yours truly WENDELL K. NASH 1 |
