Show Hospital information Letter to the Editor: Have you called the hospital lately? It is so reassuring to call the Ashley Valley Medical Center in time of distress and know that you will not receive help. They have a new policy that states, "We can't give out any medical information, you will have to bring him-her in." All I wanted to know is how much asprin to give my five month old child who was running a 104 degree temperature. The hospital answer was to call my family doctor for information. I am sure my family doctor wanted to be .. "awakened at midnight to answer my question on how much asprin to give, her. I believe it is time for a change in our medical help in Vernal. We are getting much too large to be running a backwoods back-woods program. If we allow nurse practitioners in our doctor's offices, why can't we have a . qualified person on duty 24 hours a day (not just on call) at the hospital? I'm not asking them to perform surgery, just be able to answer a few questions when we call. A hospital is to be of service to the public. To take a child into the emergency room in the early hours of the morning, only to have them tell me he-she has a , runny nose and a temperature (which I was aware of) to take him-her home and let them know how he-she is doing later on, is a real concern to me. To take a child all the way to Salt Lake for medical help because we can't get the right help in Vernal is also a big concern. con-cern. One possibility is to have a board made up of a mixture of doctors, hospital staff and workers, and concerned con-cerned citizens. Together we could try to come up with solutions or alternatives alter-natives to a few of the problems. I don't believe I stand alone in my concerns, we want and need a change. KAY HENRIKSON |
