Most elective positions in Uintah Uin-tah County will be up for voting this year with a primary' election Sept. 14 rxl the general election Nov. 2. Local positions up for election this vear will include the state senate seat heid by Glade M. Sowards and the state representative seat held by Gayle F. McKeachnie. In the county commission election there will be the 4-year term heM by Merrill B. Mecham and the j-vear "term held by Neal H. Domgaard. This year the clerk and auditor position posi-tion will be divided into two positions, according ac-cording to a resolution made by the County Commissioners Monday. Morns Mor-ns R. Cook has held this position w hich will include the position of clerk and the position of auditor starting with 1383. Other county elective offices include sheriff held by Arden W. Stewart, assessor held by Don. M. Walker, recorder held by Lola Anderson, treasurer hold by Frances P. Southam, attorney held by Clark Allred and surveyor held by Nelson J. Marshall. A westside and an east Uintah County Justice of the Peace will also be elected. Sharlynn Benson and Brent Feltch now hold these positions. Three school board members will be elected from districts 1, 2 and 3. These positions are currently held by Elouise N. Turner, Ed. W. Oscarson and Garth Atwood. To be eligible for county office, a candidate can-didate must have been a resident of the county for at least one year preceding the date of filing and a registered voter of the county for one year immediately preceding the election. Candidates must be members of an established political party, unless registering as an independent, or unless running for nonpartisan non-partisan positions. A fee must be paid at the time of filing, fil-ing, equal to one-fourth of one percent of the position's salary for the complete term. County offices run for four-year terms with the exception of the 2-year commissioner. The U.S. Senate seat currently held by Orrin Hatch will also be up for election elec-tion this year along with both of Utah's seats in the House of Representatives. Utah will gain a third House seat this year, with the creation of the Third Congressional Con-gressional District which includes Uintah Uin-tah County. Candidates must file at the clerk's office of-fice with the exception of those who file with the Secretary of Slate, betw een the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Registration Registra-tion dates for new voters or those who have moved will be Sept. 7, 8 and 9 for the primary election and Oct. 26, 27 and 28 for the general election at the voting district registration agent's residence. A State School Board member and those judges whose terms expire this year will also be included in the November election. Four constitutional amendments will also be included in this year's election. |
