Show DUP museum open during summer hours The DUP Pioneer Museum, 500 West 200 South, will be open during the summer sum-mer from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday The museum represents an 11-year effort on the part of the Utah Daughters of Pioneers to house their collection after being moved from one borrowed room to another. The collection includes the usual fare of guns, books, papers, old household items like chairs, sewing machines, utensils, tableware, and all the common com-mon necessities of day-to-day living. But there are other things to catch one's imagination and fancy. One item is a larger-than-lifesize bust of President Presi-dent William McKinley. The cash and carry economy of the early days is poignantly reflected in an eight-foot tall medicine cabinet, filled with hundreds upon hundreds of small cork-stopped glass vials of herbs, drugs and powders. Whatever the interests of a visitor might be, his imagination is sure to be caught by something in the DUP Pioneer Museum something that will carry his thoughts to the ancestors and their world which is so strange to us today. |
