At the opening of the second days business meetings the pipe band of El Jebel Shrine in Denver presented the flags of the United States and Canada. The officers from the Dinaland club had the opportunity of meeting Polly Holden the National ADDC president for 1981. They also listened to an address ad-dress entitled "The Battle of Ideas" given by Steve Richtie who is the special assistant to Joseph Coors. The highlight of the convention came when ADDC president Polly Holden presented the "Dinaland" president, Rita Saloga with our charter, making us the 12th club in region seven and the 112th club in the National Association. There were some very interesting workshops on four different forms of energy: oil shale, nuclear, solar and coal. "We gained some very good ideas and lots of valuable information that we will be able to use in our own club," members attending agreed. At the May meeting Dick Ebright, area manager for Dresser Atlas spoke to the group on perforating. Mr. Ebright told the ladies that in 1930 two men patented the process of shooting bullets into the casing. Prior to that time casing was already perforated before it was run. There are two types of perforating devices: the bullet and jet perforating. The Bazooka gun was the forerunner of the shaped or jet charge. 99 percent of perforations done on wells in our area is down by jet perforating. The next meeting of the Dinaland Desk and Derrick will be held on June 9, 1981 at the Cow Palace from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Mr. John Kozak from Salt Lake City, a landman for Page Petroleum Inc. will be the guest speaker. He will talk to the club members on how an oil company goes about leasing land from people. |
