Show Tom Sprouse captures first place in UBIC tennis tourney Tom Sprouse defeated John Hullinger of Roosevelt, 6-4, 6-2, for first place in the men's singles in the UBIC tennis tournament Saturday. Sprouse advanced into the championship contest with victories over Mike Spencer, 6-0, 6-0; Murphy and John Davisson. Hullinger toppled Gordon Edlredge, 6-2,6-1, and downed David Sowards, 6-3, 6-1. In other first round encounters, John Murphy downed Karl Mortensen, 6-3, 6-1; 6-1; John Davisson toppled Mike Peterson, 6-3, 6-0; David Sowards downed Leonard Ducharme, 6-0, 6-3; John Weight toppled Glen Markham on a forfeit and Gordon Eldredge downed Al Werden, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1. Al Werden defeated Leonard Ducharme for the consolation crown. Tom Sprouse and John Dickerson of Vernal pocketed first place in the men's doubles when they defeated John Hullinger and Burke Eldredge, 6-2, 7-6. Tom Sprouse and John Dickerson defeated Russell Goodrich and Donald Haslem in the first round and toDpled John Davisson and Roger Goelitz in the second round. The Hullinger-Eldredge team downed Bert Peterson and Hack Ralls in the first round and toppled John Murphy and Mike Peterson in the second round.
