Show One-car crash claims life of Pennsylvanian A one-car crash into the bridge abutment near the Glines Ward, west on U.S. 40, claimed the life of a Pennsylvania man early Thursday, Aug. 6. Miguel E. Payan, 29, of Catawissa, Pa., died in the Uintah County Hospital from a head wound two hours after the accident. His wife, Karen, 25, who was driving driv-ing the car, suffered minor facial injuries and was held in the hospital Thursday for further observation. She was later released. The accident occurred near 1470 W. U.S. 40 at about 6:35 a.m. officer David Free of the Vernal City Police reported. They were apparently watching the sunrise, and their car veered to the right of the road struck the bridge rail and abutment, abut-ment, Officer Mike Hamner, Vernal City Police, said. Police reported that the car was not traveling at an excessive speed. Ninety Nine-ty percent of the crash impact was to the passenger side of the car. Damages to the vehicle, vehi-cle, .a Toyota, are estimated at $4,000. Citations Cita-tions are pending further investigation. In an unrelated accident, acci-dent, David Meyer, 22, of Glenwood, N.Y. ran into I Jeffrey Banta, 21, of Ver- I nal while Banta was mak ing a right turn off U.S. 40 at 325 South.
