' Jared Martin stars as the director of an underwater salvage company assigned to locate a sunken Soviet submarine, in M STATION: HAWAII. The exciting new motion picture-for-television will be broadcast on 'The CBS Tuesday Night Movies,' June 10. by Joey Sasso I CONFIDENTIAL REPORT: Is TV's favorite bad guy, J namely J.R. Ewing of 'Dallas,' planning on pulling a I disappearing act come September? That's the rumor I making the rounds in Glitter Gulch. As regular viewers I of 'Dallas' know, in this season's final episode, J.R. was J shot, perhaps fatally, which led to all the whispers in I Hollywood that Larry Hagman's future with 'Dallas' I might be equally perilous, if he or his agent turns I 'difficult' at contract time . . . which, it just so happens, I is now. But Hagman, with whom I spoke briefly, very I politely and firmly refuted the reports that he or his I character is destined to soon quit 'Dallas.' "That would I be like killing the golden goose," said Hagman, I laughing. "The series has been wonderful for me. I also I happen to have a contract with Lorimar (the show's I producers) that I'm happy with now. I think this whole I thing got started in the tabloids." Perhaps what helped I start the rumors in the first place was the recent news I that Hagman had signed an agreement with NBC, I reportedly at network chief Fred Silverman's personal I request, that once Larry is no longer a part of 'Dallas' I on CBS he can write his own ticket at NBC as far as TV movies and even a new series are concerned. But I with the sky-high ratings still gushing in for 'Dallas' that I might not come to pass for years. I TV TICKER: Mary Richards used to 'Mr. Grant' Mr. I Grant to death on the old Mary Tyler Moore Show. But I in real life Edward Asner proves Mary was right after I all. The epitome of easygoingness on that show, Asner I recently told Dick Cavett he won't tolerate being called I 'Eddie' by strangers. "Unless you're an old friend or I relative, it presumes familiarity, and a casual I acquaintance dare not do that." . . . Linda Lavin, who I plays the waitress-title character in TV's 'Alice,' is a I strong believer in the rights of the working woman. And I she believes in strengthening those rights through her TV characterizalions. Lavin told me, "It behooves us I in television to reach out, to educate people, and to I reflect life accurately. And I can disseminate I information through my work about tins terribly I underrepresented group ol people (working women) I with whom I identify." Last year she won 80 Per Cent I Award of the National Commission of Working Women I for the most realistic depiction ol a working woman on I television. I TV CLOSEUP: Good news for Baretta fans: Robert Blake I is returning to TV in another police series. This time, I he says he'll play a cop even tougher than Baretta ... I Howard Hesseman of 'WKRP in Cincinnati' smokes two I packs of cigarettes a day, but says he counteracts their I effect by swimming a mile each day . . . Jose Ferrer is I set to co-star with Vince Edwards in NBC's new version I of Vince's vintage 'Ben Casey' series . J "" " " i : , . :' ' i 1 - : :? i j ; .: .
