Show Opener is ? died as good vo ciir in Uinvh Basin The 1980 general fishing opener on Saturday was fair to good in the Northeastern Nor-theastern Region according to Clair Davis, law enforcement officer of the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources. "It was good in some areas and not so good in other places. Overall the pressure was a lot lighter than it has been in provious years," remarked Clair Davis. Steinaker Reservoir was excellent and there were quite a few large fish taken in the opener. The pressure was equal or lower than last year. "It was a little spotty, but most fishermen were happy with the fishing at Steinaker Reservoir," stated Clair Davis. "Steinaker was one of the better places in the region according to reports from the officers." The Green River below the Flaming Gorge Dam was good on opening day, with large rainbows of three pounds being taken. Sandwash and Moon Lake were listed as gjood. "Sandwash received heavy pressure and Moon t "ke received the same pressure as last year," said David. "Bullock Reservoir was fair fishing and pressure was up. There were some pretty good sized rainbows taken." Some areas in the UirTta Mountains such as Sheep Creek and the Uinta River were reported as good. "The Uintah River was good, but the pressure was down. Sheep Creek and Browne Lake had light pressure. The fishing at Browne Lake was fair," remarked Davis. Crouse and Clader Reservoir were crowded, but they didn't produce good fishing according to Clair Davis. "The pressure was light at Starvation. Red Creek and the North Fork of the Duchesne River. The North Fork of the Duchesne River was clear, Dut it was high," commented Davis. Strawberry Reservoir produced plenty of large fish, although anglers had to work just a little harder to get ttiem. When the weather cleared -up fisherman caught quick limits of rainbows at Soldier Creek. Fishing was fast at Scofield and the pressure was heavy as 555 boaters and 2700 shore fishermen jammed nearly every available spot on the reservoir. The catch rate for boaters was 1.25 fish per man per hour while those on the bank averaged nearly a fish per hour. |
