Show Former resident displays water colors at library Douglas Lee's paintings are now being featured in an art exhibit at the Uintah County Library, in the multipurpose multi-purpose room. The artist's work may be seen during regular library hours through the month of June. The exhibit consists of thirteen paintings in watercolor. Mr. Lee first became interested in drawing when he took summer art classes that were given in Vernal, free of charge, as summer programs for the youth. Mrs. Ruth Haslem was one of his teachers. Douglas would spend hours in the library while he was going through school studying books showing the old masters' works. After graduating from Uintah High School he studied art at the University of Utah. Doug then opened an art gallery in Heber, Utah (House of Fine Arts, 310 N. Main) where he has been painting for almost seven years. "The University was helpful to a degree, but the real knowledge comes from constant con-stant hard work on one's own," Mr. Lee stated. The watercolors on exhibit are landscapes, mostly winter and autumn scenes and a painting of 'Hermit Sam', of Heber, Utah. Mr. Lee's colors are subtle and harmonious. Doug, who is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Blaine Lee of Vernal, still loves the area and comes back to try to find more strength from the past. |
