Michael Osborne, left and Jonathan Sunkees, right, sit in their boat and wait for the fish to bite. Many fishermen gained limits at Steinaker Reservoir, Saturday during the opener. qs toft feUn pirodQjeeir One of the hot spots during the general fishing opener in the Uintah Basin, Saturday was Steinaker Reservoir, which is north of Vernal. Glen and Luella Peterson of Salt Lake City hooked 15 fish at Steinaker Reservoir. "I caught one fish that was a pretty good size. It wasn't a giant, but it was a good size fish," stated Luella Peterson. Glen Peterson added, "We caught the fish on worms and cheese. My wife caught the biggest one. I nabbed eight and she hooked seven. Last year we caught one and I had to go skinny dipping to get it because it was stuck on the willows." Vernal's Curtis Crenshaw began fishing from the shore at Steinaker Reservoir at 12 noon and by 3 p.m. he had his limit. "I got seven and I'm going for one more. It has been great at Steinaker Reservoir. I hooked the fiph on cheese and worms. I also used a marshmallow with the worms," stated Curtis Crenshaw at about 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. About half an hour later he hooked his eighth and final fish at Steinaker Reservoir. Larry Bristol of Vernal nabbed two fish in a half hour at Steinaker Reservoir on cheese. Bristol said, "I should of had five if I had been watching wat-ching what I was doing. They weigh about two pounds," Larry's son, Norman Bristol remarked, "I caught one on cheese." A few minutes later the group hooked another fish. Another successful fisherman at Steinaker Reservoir was Ray Harvey of Vernal. "I got six on cheese in about 45 minutes. The fishing has been beautiful at Steinaker Reservoir. I can't complain. My son Matthew hooked one. I caught one and my son Danny nabbed one. Matthew nabbed another one. I gained my second one and Danny hooked another fish. If you get in the right spot you can take them away," said Ray Harvey. However, some fish hunters weren't quite as lucky. Bill Mead, Vernal, commented, "I had one up to the bank, but the line broke in front of the hook and I lost a 12-incher." The Mead group moved to the spot where Curtis Crenshaw had been hooking his fish, but they failed to nab a fish in l'2 hours. The spot that they left was taken over by Larry and Norman Bristol and they caught four fish. One lady fished all day at Steinaker Reservoir and she failed to nab a fish. She decided she had had enough and wanted to go home. However her son wanted to try his hand at fishing. "Just let me try one time," he remarked. The young boy flipped his hook in the water and a few minutes later he hooked a big fish. Another lady remarked, "I was so excited last year when I had a fish on my line that I threw my fishing pole into the water. My son went in after it and it still had the fish on it." :;,fe -J.-'-'t'- , ,;v' ft I J ;' - A FISHERMAN FROM Roosevelt by the name of Orlando Rachele waits and hopes for a fish to take his bait in the Jones Hole Creek during the general fishing opener, Saturday. |
