Foston Chivers nabs winning point late in third round The Uintah fans hadn't seen the Ute tusslers in Vernal for three weeks and they were rewarded for their patience -with a 43 to 9 win by the Utes over Steamboat Springs. One of the most exciting matches was Foston Chivers' 3-2 win over 112 pounder. Norm Look of Steamboat Springs. ""Look took second' . at Steamboat Springs. I was in a hurry V. to get away and score the winning escape in the third round. It was a quick stand up and I controlled the hands, and then I went on offense on takedowns so he wouldn't take me down for the score " stated Chivers. The Utes' Chivers nabbed an escape with 29 seconds left for the winning point in the match. Uintah's Ken Cobbs, heavyweight, ended the wrestling with a fall. "Dale Coyner was tough, but he was a little out of shape. He will be a lot tougher in the Vernal Tournament. I pinned him with a reverse bear hug," stated Cobbs. The Utes' 119 pounder is a sophomore by the name of Jeff Good. He won his first varsity dual meet match when he blanked Shane Jacobs, 6-0. "I just wanted to win in front of the crowd. I had to go out and get the takedown on him," said Good. It appeared that Cory McNeill would pin Ed Stees in the first round, but the Sailor tussler turned McNeill over. However, McNeill twisted out of trouble and pinned Stees in the second round. "I kind of messed up in the first round, so I came back and pinned him in the second round," said McNeill. "I kind of lucked into the fall. It was a sloppy pin. I just rolled him into it. The pin was an arm bar, which is known as the Rock Springs special." Matt Hacking continued to delight the Uintah Utes when he pinned Chris Ferguson in the first round. "The pin was a cradle. I set him up for it by pulling his leg back. I work on the - cradle quite a bit," said Hacking. The win over Steamboat Springs improves Uintah's record to 3-1, and Uintah wrestling coach, Chuck Henry, remarked, "This is the best we have wrestled this year, and it's about time we wrestled in front of the home crowd. Foston Chivers has his weight established and he is doing a lot better job. Allen Huber is improving every week. He will get better and better. Our sophomore, Jeff Good, did a good job. A sophomore has to believe in himself and Jeff is starting to do that. A freshman fresh-man wrestles some 7th, 8th, and 9th graders, but a sophomore on the varsity var-sity team encounters sophomores, juniors, and seniors." Henry added, "Ken Cobbs wrestles real smart against big kids. He knows what he has to do to win. He has to wear them down and pin them and not throw them down. Matt Hacking is one of the test wrestlers in the four states, Idaho, Utah, Colorado, and Wyoming, that we have seen so far." "A team needs great support from the community, which is what we got tonight (Saturday). The community has to get behind the team and support them like they have in the past. This Uintah team will surprise a lot of people," said Henry. |
