Show Xi Alpha Xi features Yugoslavia Concluding a festive holiday season, members of Xi Alpha Xi Sorority returned to the enjoyment of the "Grand Tour" cultural programs December 17th in the home of Evelyn Slaugh. Evelyn Herbst was co-hostess. President Carolyn Pollard called the meeting to order for the 13 members present. Concluding the 1979 year, committee reports were brief, with chairmen discussing new ideas and projects for the New Year. Ways and Means Chairman, Gerri Voyles, announced that members will be seeking community support again with the traditional chapter quilt project in February. Following the brief business meeting, Evelyn Herbst introduced Trudy Chupp, who kept members spellbound with her narration of life and customs in Yugoslavia. She shared personal experiences and memories of the country, which compares in size to the state of Wyoming, with a population of 22 million. The terrain is mountainous with a long beautiful coast line. Trudy explained the native women are very chic and industrious, but due to custom are kept in near seclusion. Displays of art and needlework impressed members mem-bers of the native artistic ability. A social hour followed with members asking questions and making remarks. Refreshments of German potato salad and apple strudel were served as a tradition of the country. The evening concluded with excitement as sorority "secret sisters" were revealed for the 1979 year. The first January meeting of 1980 for the chapter will be held in the home of Barbara Barton. |
