Show BLAA proposes withdrawal on Devil's Rock House area Public comment is being sought by the Bureau of Land Mangement concerning concer-ning a proposed withdrawal for the Devil's Rock House area in Uintah County. The bureau also wants to know if the public thinks there should be a public hearing on the proposal. The area consists of 60 acres of BLM-administered BLM-administered land 28 miles southeast of Vernal. It contains sandstones which have weathered to create pillars, minarets, toadstools and other fanciful shapes. It is believed no other area such as this one exists in the United States. According to Lloyd Ferguson, Vernal BLM District Manager, the area needs to be withdrawn from mining location and entry to protect the scenic, fragile and unique geological features. Written comments on the proposed withdrawal or requests for a public hearing should be mailed to the BLM Utah state director, 136 East South Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah 84111, by January 18, 1980. |
