Show 1950, 1960 and 1970 hoopsters to clash in alumni games, Thursday Uintah High School graduates will compete in alumni games, Thursday, December 27 at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and two of the oldest players on the alumni team are Red Hatch and Terry Anderson. Both hoopsters graduated from Uintah High School in 1955. Anderson and Hatch took part in the Class B Tournament in 1955, and a story, which was printed in the Vernal Express on March 17, 1955 follows: "Both Uintah and Union High Schools won their first games Wednesday in the Class B tournament in Provo. In a late game the Utes defeated North Summit, 63 to 41. The Cougars from Union won over Parowan 47 to 44. The wins put Uintah against tough Cyprus at 3 p.m. today (Thursday) and Union against Murray at 9 p.m. In the Ute-North Summit game Valoy Eaton was top scorer with 18 points. Terry Anderson was close behind with 15 points. Other scorers were: Gary (Red) Hatch, 7; Ronnie Abegglen, 6; Earl Gross, 4; Sterling Kendall, 3; Jerry Cutshaw, 2; Dale Williams, 2; Gary Lyman, 1 and Phil Bryson, 4. In the Union-Parowan game top scorer was Packy Fenn with 17. Other scorers were Anderton, 2; Hansen, 2; Womack, 1; Benson, 1; Huber, 8; Johnson, 2 and Gilbert, 14. The scores by quarters in the Uintah-North Summit Sum-mit game were: first, 8-8; second, Uintah, Uin-tah, 29 and North Summit, 18; third, Uintah, 54 and North Summit, 33 and fourth, Uintah, 63 and North Summit, 41." Other Uintah High School graduates, who had signed up for the games, as of Saturday were: Dale Allred, 1970; J.D. Harris, 1977; Lon Handley, 1976; Gary Huber, 1976; Gary Bascom, 1961; Duane Merrell, 1976; Arvel Tassainer, 1961; John Gardiner, 1958; Jim Abegglen, Abeg-glen, 1957; Rick Gardner, 1977; Tim King, 1979; John Shumway, 1966; Toby Gilroy, 1978; Greg Gilroy, 1972; Chad Labrum, 1979; Jan Goodrich, 1976; Scott Kavanaugh, 1979; Robert Nelson, 1976 and Mike Phillips, 1977. Both games will be held at Uintah High School and Red Hatch remarked that the first game might consist of players from the 1950's against hoopsters of the 1960's and the second contest may consist of cagers from the 1970's. The game could consist of 1950 and 1960 hoopsters against 1970 cagers. All the proceeds will go to the high school athletic program. |
