Show Students complimented Dear Editor; I would like to take this opportunity to extend the compliments of my family, myself, as well as those from many other people here in Brigham City, to the basketball coaches, players, managers and to the advisor and girls on the drill team from Uintah High School. Uintah High School was one of eight schools (and I should add was the smallest and the one having to travel the most miles) participating in a basketball tournament and drill-team competition event in Brigham City recently. The girls did exceptionally well winning first place honors while though the boys didn't win any games succeeded in winning the hearts and admiration of so many attending while winning the coveted Sportsmanship tropny. The conduct and language of all were most commendable, both on and off the playing floor and even though there were times when some calls by the referees could have been considered questionable, and the team was behind, they gave their best effort without negativism. The team members were housed by families and we were privileged to host Derrin Gardiner and Ron Gardner. They, as were all the other players, were very polite and courteous guests. Several of the host families commented about there being something very special about "those kids from Vernal. I have to admit to being favorably ; biased towards Vernal, but I believe I that when people, especially youth, do things that are commendable they should be told. I also believe you parents, coaches, advisors, team managers and school administrators should be very proud of the people you sent to this competition. I hope all of your kids are as great! Best wishes throughout the rest of this school year. Curt Hunsaker family |
