Show Utah Interstate System Gains In Mileage WASHINGTON About 349 miles of the Interstate 'Highway System within Utah are now open to traffic with work in progress on all but 8.4 of thle remaining 586 miles of the Utah portion, por-tion, Sen. Wallace F. Bennett, Ben-nett, R-Utah, said today. The figures represent progress pro-gress on the 955-mile sys- tern in Utah up to .the first of 1970, Sen. Bennett noted. "When completed, the Interstate In-terstate System wil be our nation's key highway network, net-work, serving both civilian and defense needs, and carrying car-rying more than 20 per cent of all traffic," he explained. "Since 1956, more than $315 (m) million worth of projects in1 Utah principally financed with Federal funds as part of the Interstate System have been completed," complet-ed," Sen. Bennett said. "Currently, "Cur-rently, there is an additional $755 (m) million worth of projects that are under way or have been authorized." The Utah lawmaker said, "As of the first of this year, the 349 miles in Utah open to .traffic included 337 miles completed to full or acceptable accept-able standards, and another 12 miles that have been improved im-proved to standards adequate adequ-ate for present traffic. "Work in progress at that time included 215 miles under un-der construction, 362 miles on which the engineering rights-of-way were being negotiated, ne-gotiated, leaving less than .10 miles of the system not in some stage of progress." |
