Show Monte Crist Plans Uranium Mining Operation; Looks to Future Potash Solution Mine Protect Long-hole drilling in the Monte Cristo Corporation properties near Moab, Utah, has disclosed high-grade uranium uran-ium ore bodies, according to Richard Minasian, president of the firm. Monte Cristo is drilling long holes in areas where commer cial grade uranium had pre viously been discovered and mined. Recent drillings have revealed reveal-ed high-grade deposits ranging from 20 hundrelhs to 1.90 per cent U3.8. The ore bodies d'scovered during the rec-eut drilling have been significant in size but the full extent has not been outlined as yet. The drilling operations will continue con-tinue for some time, according to Mr. Minasian. While Monte Cristo was planning plan-ning to begin acual mining of its properties later this month , underground probing operations may delay the mining min-ing start until March, according accord-ing to Mr. Minasian. When mining does begin, the firm will employ up to 15 persons. The firm has a contract with Atlas Minerals' uranium plant in Moab for delivery of uranium ores. In other developments, the firm has filed with the Utah State Engineer's Office for fflc'3 second-feet of water for use in "solution mining" of potash on the potash properties proper-ties in the same area. Mont-5 Crsito's potash properties are known to contain one of the largest deposits in the United States. During a recent visit to Now York City, Mr. Minasian consulted with large chemical research corporation regarding regard-ing processes they have developed de-veloped for solution mining of potash. The firm also has plans to make some experimental pilot plant tests jn solution mining min-ing in the near future . Meanwhile, the potash industry in-dustry in the U.S. is reacting to a much-needed stimulus-given stimulus-given by the Saskatcheian, Canada government In order to forestall possible pos-sible action by the United States Treasury Department, to curtail dumping of potash pot-ash in the United States, the Saskatchewan government has initiated a prorationing program pro-gram for Canadian potash producers. At the same time, the minimum min-imum price that potash can be offered for in this country is $18.75 (U.S.) per ton. The new price is expected to be a real boon to United States producers. |
