Show Packers Still Reign As Pro Champions By ROBERT MYERS LOS ANGELES, Jan. 15 (AP) It wiU take something more than a collection of the! best player from rival clubs of the National league to upset Green Bay's champion Packers. The Giants from Wisconsin, combining com-bining three field goals with one dazzling aerial display that skyrocketed sky-rocketed 101 yards for a touchdown, touch-down, turned back the threat of the National league all-stars, 16-7, In the second annual postseason "pro bowl" battle yesterday. Eighteen thousand grid fans turned out in ideal weather to see the reigning team of the major circuit roll up a heavy margin in yards and a convincing advantags on the scoreboard. The outstanding play of the game came late in the second period when the packers, backed into the shadow of their own goalposts, turned an all-star threat into a play that left the crowd gasping. It was a pass uncorked by Cecil A Isbell which dropped Into the arms of Don Hutson, Green Bay's brilliant bril-liant end, 61 yards away, and was followed by a touchdown when the fleet ex-Alabama wingman raced on to the goal, 40 yards away. Isbell was standing one yard back of his own goal line when he let fly with the ball. The line of scrimmage was the Packer eight, which gives an idea of the speed Hutson had In getting down to catch the pass. The large right foot of Ernie Smith, Green Bay's tackle, rang up two field goals, one from the 18, the other from the 15, and Clarke Hinkle, Packer fullback star, added another from the 45-yard 45-yard stripe, to complete the scoring scor-ing for the Wisconsin aggregation. |
