Show Visits S.L. 1 MINING LEADER 1 VIEWSFUTURE The mining Industry Is dependent upon other businesses and whether they prosper la of vital Importance to mining, Roger W. Straus of New York City, vice president of the American Smelting and Refining company, declared Monday In Salt Lake City. Industry cannot prosper unless agriculture is In good condition, he said, pointing out that all phases of endeavor In the United States are Interdependent. Mr. Straus blamed a general lack of confidence among the leading Industries and businesses of the nation for the recession business Is experiencing after the acceleration of last fall. "While I am nb politician, I believe be-lieve the political picture Is an Important Im-portant factor," he said. "Before opening up on a large scale for 1940, business would like to know the outcome of the 1940 elections, and where It stands thereafter." Mr. Straus, on a western tour of his company's properties, visited the refining plant at Murray Monday Mon-day afternoon and planned to visit the Garfield plant Tuesday before leavlngfor Helena, Mont. The Murray smelter,- he-reportedTI running with a normal output and the Garfield plant Is carrying a capacity load.
