Show Police Judge Orders Old Cases Cleaned Up 28 Defendants Who Have Not Paid Fines Imposed for Traffic Violations Face Jail Moving to "clean up" old cases. Judge Albert H. Ellett of police court Monday ordered issuance of commitments for 28 defendant who have not paid fine. The list included name of 19 person owing fine for speeding. The defendants, according to court records, are: Adrian Cannon, Thomas Q. Evans, Ev-ans, Newton Simpson, Leslie W. Sail, C. H. Eaton. J. K. Southern, Dale C. Olson, Wenwell Hackett, Albert D. Rolfe, Moedl Steadman, Jeddle H. Roderick, Leverl Benson, Norman J. Thompson, Barney P. Soren. Roderlc Davis, speeding. Albert Bernhard, Wayne Thomas, Thom-as, Glen A. Gardner and Roe Ryd-lach, Ryd-lach, reckless driving. G. K. Owen, drunken drlvngl; Miles Burns, failure to stop and report an accident. Elmer Banks, Barney P. Soren, Wilford H. Andelln, Alonzo C. Francis and David Reed Lyon, passing stop signs or signals. Ben E. Ricks, failure to yield right-of-way; Leon Hemming, driving on wrong aide of road. Change of a plea of not guilty to one of guilty brought LaMar Harris, 34, a $200 fine and a suspended sus-pended Jail sentence of 60 days for drunken driving. Judge Ellett suspended the Jail sentence conditioned condi-tioned upon payment of the fine. Harris was arrested December 31 at 140 South Main street. On January Jan-uary 2 he pleaded not guilty. Clyde Thorpe, 21, of Malad, Idaho, pleaded guilty to a charge of reckless driving and received a 30-day suspended sentence on condition con-dition he would not drive his automobile auto-mobile for three month. Thorp Identified himself as a student at a Salt Lake City business college and aald he had saved up $105 to attend school. "I do not wish to deprive anyone of an education," Judge Ellett aald. "I think it would be doing you a great favor If you would give up your car for three months. Therefore, There-fore, there will be no fin and I hereby sentence you to 30 day in th city Jail. Jail sentence suspended sus-pended provided you do not drive your car for the next three month." Wayne Plerson, 21, of Sandy, found guilty of driving 41 miles aa hour on Ninth South street, between be-tween Fifth East and Second East streets, waa given the alternatives of paying a $10 fine or serving three days In the city Jail. P. J. Feller, 37, of Bountiful, waa fined $5 for driving 55 mile an hour In a 45-mll zone. A. M. Devey, 38, of 821 Harrison avenue, forfeited $5 bond on a charge of driving 55 mile an hour In a 30-mile 30-mile zone. Fred R. Lewi. 33, of 522 Sixth avenue, was fined $15 for driving with faulty brakes. James L Wet- son, 45, of 734 East Ninth South , street, forfeited $5 bond on a , charge of failing to halt at a stop I sign on Seventh South and West Temple streets. : City Judge Loses Coat I To Sneak Thief i City Judge Albert H. ' Upon sitting behind th bench he looked over the police court calendar to see If any persons appearing ap-pearing before him wer arrested on charges of stealing an overcoat. over-coat. None appeared. But the Judge continued to wonder what penalty to give a thief who would ateal a coat of a speaker at Sunday evening eve-ning church services especially on a cold night and a city Judge's coat at that. Judge Ellett' coat was taken Sunday night from the Harvard L D. S. ward chapel, Second East street and Williams avenue. |
