Show Norway and Sweden UXh reatened by; Reds Scandinavian Countries Warned of 'Danger' in Continuing to Give Aid to Finns MOSCOW, Jan, 15 (INS) Waving her cudgels at Sweden and Norway, soviet Russia today threatened "undesirable consequence!" if those two Scandinavian nations persist in aiding Finland in her war against the U. S. S. R. The Moscow government revealed re-vealed that formal soviet protests against their aid to Finland had been sent to Sweden and Norway and that the nature of their replies re-plies had caused "danger" to arise. Carrying the war of words a step farther. Russia charged semiofficially semioffi-cially that Sweden and Norway had not offered sufficient resistance resist-ance to alleged attempts by western west-ern powers meaning Britain and France, although they were not named to "inveigle Sweden and Norway Into war against the soviet." The dlDlomatlc exchantes were made public by the Tass (Russian! news agency, which commented that the replies from Stockholm and Oslo were not satisfactory to Moscow. In the protests, delivered January Janu-ary 5, Russia accused the two small nations of fomenting an "anti-soviet "anti-soviet campaign" and permitting volunteers and arms for Finland to go from or pass through their territories. The notes threatened "undesirable consequences" unless both nations called an Immediate halt to these activities. Sweden and Norway replied that volunteers siding the Finns were not members of their armies snd could not legally be restrained. Norway said she was not permitting permit-ting transit of arms through her territory, but Sweden made no declaration on that particular Dolnt. The Tass bulletin commented: The replies from Norway, and especially from Sweden, cannot be considered satisfactory. "The attitude of Norway and Sweden contains danger." |
