Show OTAH COUNTY LEADSjAFETY Sixteen Deathless Days Recorded in Area If Utah county continues traffic safety efforts at Its present pace which Is lust Its intention It will take the spotlight from the rest of the state's metropolitan area and be first to equal Its 1939 record rec-ord of consecutive days without a motor vehicle death. The populous county that makes up the southern enu of the Metropolitan Met-ropolitan area is turning the tables on the other units in the area-Salt area-Salt Lake City, Salt Lake county outside the city, and Davis county a recapitulation of deathless days showed Tuesday. The deathless day periods, popular pop-ular barometers of safety results Inaugurated by The Telegram last year, stand as follows for the four units: 1939 1940 Record Utah county . . .18 38 Davis county 14 84 Salt Lake county ....10 85 Salt Lake City 7 67 As the table shows, Utah county has not had a fatality this year, going unscathed through 16 consecutive con-secutive days. Utah county has the shorti-st distance to go to equal its 1939 recora oi jo aays, lowest oi mi four units. The fact the county had the shortest such period last year Isn't as Important as the fact that it is tops so far in 1940. What's past is history, and 1940, not last year, ia what matters now. Utah county leaders have hopes the deathless period of 1939 can be equaled or exceeded readily. Because of its bad experience last year 23 fatalities the county Is planning the most extensive traffic traf-fic safety program ever undertaken under-taken there. It will be launched at a mass meeting at Provo January Jan-uary 31. |
