The couple came to Salt Lake' City from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, and they have been here since the first kA . wee of Septem-mee Septem-mee ber. Mr. Gillis. a research student ,. at the University rOlKS of Utah school of mines. Is here on a fellowship from Nova Scotia Technical college. He Is studying mining and Intends In-tends to practice in the gold fields of northern Canada after his work here to finished. The couple, both natives of Nova Scotia, left their home Just a few days before the outbreak of the European war. Their home town Is the "Jumping-off" place for many of the troops and much of the material Canada Is sending overseas. over-seas. Mr. Gillis Is not worried about becoming involved In the war when he returns to Canada. "The only recruits being taken at present are volunteers," he said. They plan to remain here until about June 1. |
