Sharn and Dr. N. T. Hick en stressed the Importance of calling the family physician when a member of the family Is suffering suffer-ing from symptoms of appendicitis. When a person Is distressed with constipation, nausea, pains In the stomach and other symptoms of appendicitis, call your family physician. physi-cian. 3. Do not administer cathartics. 3. Use Ice begs and similar remedies rem-edies only under advice of your physician. Chances of recovery from appendicitis appen-dicitis diminish with the Increase , of time before proper treatment Is administered, Dr. Hlcken said, listing list-ing the following mortality rate: ' When treated during first 13 hours, deaths result In one out of TOO cases; when treatment Is delayed de-layed to between 12 and 24 hours, the mortality rate increases to one death out of 150 eases; when the delay Is to between 34 and 36 hours, one death results out of 35 cases; when proper treatment Is delayed until after the appendix has rup- -tured (usually another six hours), death results In three out of four cases. Another public health problem, control of syphilis, was discussed by Dr. Edward 8.
