Show AUDITORS FIND GUNIIISOH CITY FUHDSM1SSING $2048 Shortage Alleged in Ex-Treasurer's Accounts A shortage toUUng $2048.22 In accounts of Mrs. Margaret Halvor-sen. Halvor-sen. former city, treasurer of Gunnison, Gun-nison, was reported Wednesday in an audit report compiled by R. R. ; Carey and others. , The auditors were, retained by. the city and Mr. Carey aald the report re-port had been filed with Gunnison city officials. Mr. Carey said an auditors' recommendation rec-ommendation that city officials make demand on sureties for Mrs. Halvorseri had been carried out. Shortages, the audit report said, were found in general tax receipts and In a general and water fund. Total StMS.tl In the latter, the report said, there was a discrepancy of $499.72 between water deposits and receipts re-ceipts issued. The auditors reported the treasurer treas-urer had received (1548.50 from general taxes for which no receipts had been Issued. The two sums total $2048.22. Mrs. Halvorsen was replaced in office the first of the year. The auditors said they had discussed dis-cussed the Items with Mrs. Halvorsen. Halvor-sen. but were "unable to get a satisfactory explanation." Home Burned "Her only comment was that-she did not see how the amount could be so much," the audit report said. The auditors said they were unable un-able to check on the water accounts ac-counts because, on the date of their arrival, December 15, "her (Mrs. Halvorsen house was destroyed by fire and the ledger went up in smoke." The auditors recommended that water users in Gunnison be contacted con-tacted to "determine as accurately as possible the condition of each account." The auditors were Mr. Carey, J. W. Robinson and R. N.- Cooper. |
