In a nation-wide broadcast last night Smith asked the people to "stand eolidly" behind President Rooeevelt In the neutrality battle. He ured lifting of the arm embargo, em-bargo, enactment of the "cash and carry" amendment for the sales of munitions and war supplies and a , ban to keep American ships and passengers out of war tones. "I am appealing to the American people to stand solidly behind the president because he is so clearly right, so obviously on the side of common sense and sound judgment of patriotism that only those who lack the understanding of the Issue will oppose him,'' Smith said. |
