Wallace Patrick was one of five freshmen and sophomores meriting honors for the winter quarter at school. He is a sophomore in applied ap-plied science. "The Sea Rover", said to be one of the most powerful marine scenes ever to be exhibited at the high school, was unveiled as the prize picture in the 1935 April Art show held Tuesday afternoon. Ritschel of Carmel Highlands, Calif. 25 YEARS AGO Word was received here this week of the death of Mrs. Alonzo Harmon, the former Helen Best, who died of pneumonia in Salt Lake City, where she moved only a short time ago. She is the daughter daugh-ter of Mr. and Mrs. E.'' O. Best and leaves her husband and one daughter daugh-ter and one son, nine brothers and sisters. Asael Thorn, Ernest Oakley and J. L. Weight have been selected to serve on the May venire of the jury. Mr. and Mrs. Arvil Bird are the proud parents of a baby son born April 29 at the family residence. Miss Margaret McPherson. former for-mer student of the high school, has just won the honor of being the most outstanding debator at Westminster West-minster college. . ' Wm. A. Gammell, 75, long-time resident of Springville died suddenly sud-denly in Long Beach, Calif.,' of a heart attack Tuesday. He had gone to California about two months ago for his health. Word has been received by friends here that Arthur Condie is manager of one of a chain of food stores in Seattle, Wash., and is appointed ap-pointed clerk of a new LDS ward in that area. , Miss Flora Martin has been chosen valedictorian of the senior class having the highest scholastic standing in the school. She will give the address at the graduation exercises May 16. Melba Roylance of the Fourth ward and Lewis Harmer of Maple-ton Maple-ton were awarded first place in the annual MIA public speaking contest con-test of Kolob stake held Monday. The instrumental trio taking first place was composed of C. H. Childs, Orman Weight and Mary Bird. Miss Helen Palfreyman and John Hardy were judges. The marriage of Miss Lucy La-Vanger La-Vanger of Springville and Willis Hill, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hill of Spanish Fork, took place . April 25, in the Salt Lake Temple. |
