Show mm m CASE JSJBGUED Injured Teacher Carries Compensation Demand to Supreme Court. Arguments 'were heard yesterday by the supreme court of Utah ou the writ of mandamus asked by Miss Hae Woodcock against the board of education edu-cation of Salt Lake to recover payment pay-ment of $258 given as an award by the state industrial commission under the workmen's compensation law. Miss Woodcock, who was a teacher in the 1 Whittier school, was injured by the explosion from a steam kettle in which she was preparing soup for a luncheon to be given. for the members of the school faculty, and, according to the petition, she was ordered to prepare pre-pare the soup by the principal of the school who was her superior. Frank E. Holman, attorney for the board of education, contended that the constitution of the state makes no provision pro-vision for the payment of such claims from the general school fund and that the legislature was not empowered to legislate payments from such funds. Provision should have been made by the state legislature for the payments of compensation from another source, he argued. James H. Wolf appeared for the plaintiff. |
